At the Board Study Session January 29, 2008, The Board of Directors of Pleasant Hill Recreation & Park District released ten accomplishments for 2007, and 11 goals for 2008. |
Accomplishments for 2007
- Completed the Sprayground project in spite of construction problems and increased demands from the Health Department. In addition the Pleasant Hill Community Foundation exceeded its fund raising goal for the project.
- Hired new full-time staff including Accounting Supervisor (serving also as Human Resources Manager); Senior Program Recreation Supervisor; Senior Program Coordinator; Aquatics Program Coordinator, District Office Administrative Assistant. And Joe Hurd was appointed as a new Board Member.
- Implemented and trained staff on the Active.Net registration program, transferred all classes, rentals, and activities from Recware to Active.Net. Purchased new accounting and human resources software.
- Developed new Senior Center plans (donation from Tom MacDonald) and established a support planning committee.
- Completed Senior Center Little House Computer Lab upgrades.
- Installed HVAC and boiler units at the Community Center and HVAC at the School House; new carpets at the Winslow Center and Community Center Office; new fence at the Senior Little House; completed slide repairs at Woodside Hills III, and vigilantly monitored facility and park maintenance needs.
- Started construction of new Sports Building at Pleasant Oaks Park through the efforts of the Pleasant Hill Baseball Association.
- Formed an Emergency Preparedness sub-committee, which is now in the process of setting up a District-wide staff training and emergency drills.
- Hired consultant (NBS) for financial modeling study.
- Received a “Very Good” safety evaluation (the highest rating) for the 10th consecutive year which included a one-time only, 1% additional safety credit for $13,150.00.
Goals for 2008
- Complete crucial infrastructure repair/renovation projects at the Community Center.
- Work with NBS/Tramutola firms to finalize plans for types of financing the District should place on the ballot, both for capital improvements and maintenance of existing and new infrastructure. Determine which capital projects (including the Senior Center) should be included in the bond measure. Work with all affiliated groups and friends of the District to develop grass roots support for the ballot initiative to be successful.
- Identify and allocate sufficient funding to design and construct replacement walkways at Pleasant Hill Park and the Community Center.
- Implement technology projects for the District as needed as per Wocjik report (this includes computers and phone systems).
- Continue to monitor all sites and facilities for repair and upgrades and identify, prioritize, and quantify the repair and replacement costs of our facilities to allow the District to develop a five-year (or longer) plan for addressing safety and compliance issues.
- Develop a plan to review and implement comparable salary increases for staff.
- Upgrade restrooms at Rodgers-Smith Park and Pleasant Hill Park.
- Initiate Disaster Preparedness planning; conduct SIMS training, and work with the City of Pleasant Hill on the Emergency Operations Plan.
- Purchase, replace, or repair the train engine for safe operation of the Pleasant Hill Express at special events.
- Initiate plans for building our own gymnasium.
- Build on positive relationships with the city of Pleasant Hill, Mt. Diablo Unified School District, Pleasant Hill Chamber of Commerce, other public agencies and co-sponsored groups.
