Kasuga Lantern

This authentic Kasuga Lantern dignifies the courtyard at the Pleasant Hill Community Center. Lanterns of this type were often given to Buddhist Temples in tribute to a deceased loved one. Nowadays, lanterns of this type are mostly used in garden settings. This carved stone statuary, which is between two and three hundred years old, was donated to the Pleasant Hill Recreation & Park District on September 15, 1973 by the Sumitomo Bank of Pleasant Hill.

Location: Inside the courtyard at Pleasant Hill Community Center, 320 Civic Drive.
